DAY 5 - Christmas Countdown - Harvest Apple Spritz

Day 5 of my christmas countdown is really getting into the Christmas spirit with a Harvest Apple Spritz. I love cocktail recipes like this where you can pre-prepare everything, and just throw it all in a jug ready to serve.

I’ve been doing a fair bit of quality taste testing this week just to make sure all the cocktails are as good as they look. Should probably think about a dry week or two after the holidays to recover!

Enjoy!

DAY 6 - Christmas Countdown - Lavender Basil Lemonade

Day 6 of my christmas countdown is for all those lemonade fanatics out there, with a fragrant Lavender Basil Lemonade. Being non alcoholic this recipe is perfect for the whole family, and hits the sweet spot on a hot summers day. You can play around with the quantities of lemon juice, lavender, basil and honey to find the combination you like. Some people like it tart, others a bit sweeter, or more fragrant with additional lavender and basil.

Weekend Waffles.....?

Loving the abundance of citrus at this time of year, with so many options for recipes - both sweet & savoury. Last weekend’s brunch is one of my favourites recipe for combining a few different citrus flavours together. You don’t have to stick with orange, grapefruit, and mandarin, but mix it up with what ever is available. I’ve also used blood oranges, limes, tangelos and cumquats in this recipe. But just make sure the syrup balances out the tartness of the citrus.

There’s only ever clean plates after serving this dish to the hungry hordes, so you can’t go wrong!

Enjoy!

The weather, Clive James & citrus .......

Well winter has definitely arrived, and we seem to be experiencing weeks of grey overcast days with continual rain. I always remember a comment by Australian author and raconteur Clive James, about his view on the weather in London - he likened it too living under a Tupperware container. Got to agree with you there Clive, we have the same problem here in NZ at the moment.

To brighten the long grey wet weekend I’ve had a bit of a baking session in the kitchen to use up some of the citrus from the garden. This combination of the tart citrus filling with the liquoricey anise pastry is perfect! Give the recipe a go - you won’t be disappointed!

Happy New Year....!

Happy New Year to everyone out there - hope you all had a fabulous night and aren't under the weather this morning. Thought I would share this cocktail which started our New Years eve celebrations last night. Given it was a warm evening it was the perfect way to start the party along with some tasty nibbles.

You can adjust the quantities to your own tastes, and it makes a refreshing drink for anytime during the summer. Best part for me is the crunch of the pomegranate arils when you get to the bottom of the glass. Enjoy!

The last End of Summer cocktail....

A week back I test drove this cheeky cocktail recipe, while the weather was still trying to kid us it was summer with temps in the mid 20's even though it was early May.

I have to say this recipe by Trolley'd hits the spot for a refreshing drink with the perfect balance of tart grapefruit & fragrant kaffir lime. Just make sure you have enough supplies in as one cocktail is never enough.

Cheers!
